If your silver caught some life — a jacuzzi, sunscreen, a spritz of perfume, a day in the kitchen — make sure to wash it off. Use warm water, a drop of mild soap or washing-up liquid, and a soft toothbrush. Rinse, dry thoroughly, ready to wear.

If you missed the window and the silver tarnished, a polishing cloth or a foil bath will bring it back. For the foil bath: line a bowl with aluminium foil, carefully pour over boiling water, add a spoon of baking soda, and drop your silver in. The tarnish transfers to the foil — rinse and dry when done.

Gold vermeil needs more attention than plain silver — that's just the nature of it. Ours is 24K gold plated over 925 sterling silver at 4 microns, but the gold layer will wear if you don't look after it.

Put it on last. Take it off before swimming, washing hands, showering, sports, and sleeping. Sunscreen, perfume, and creams go on first — let them dry, then put your jewellery on. Friction wears the gold down too, so watch out for denim and rough surfaces.

To clean, use a soft polishing cloth or warm water, a drop of mild soap, and a soft toothbrush. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
